Since 2010, O’Brien Icehouse has been the proud home of one of Australia’s premier, world-class training facilities for elite athletes and beginners alike. With the support of the Victorian Government, O’Brien Group Australia and the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia, O’Brien Icehouse has become and will continue to be the heart of ice sports and entertainment in Australia.
O’Brien Group Australia is a leading Venue Management, Catering and Leisure company which owns and operates a number of major Australian and New Zealand leisure venues, including O’Brien Icehouse. This partnership provides significant support to all ‘Icehouse’ operations including their acclaimed schools programs and Victoria’s national ice hockey teams, Melbourne Ice and Mustangs.
In December 2019, a large scale LED advertising screen was installed on the back of the Icehouse building, facing Melbourne's Citylink freeway, just north of the Bolte Bridge. This screen is used to advertise functions and services provided by O'Brien Icehouse, as well as products and services provided by advertisers and supporters of O'Brien Icehouse.
A highlight of the new LED screen is the ability to broadcast emergency warnings, as well as live weather forecasts. We recently collaborated with the Seven Network and Nine Network to create 7NEWS and 9 News weather displays that show the minimum and maximum temperatures for the day. As part of the permit regulations implemented by the government, each display must relate to O'Brien Icehouse. To abide by this regulation, each of these screens also displays the internal temperature of the Icehouse.
